Marshals Newsletter

Wishing you all the best for 2021, and hopefully a better year for Motorsport.

It has been a difficult year with the pandemic for motorsport, however we were fortunate to run the Mull Hire Classic Rally back in March, just before lockdown. To those who marshalled on the Mull Hire Classic this year I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support, however the bad news is the 2021 Mull Classic has been cancelled due to the unpredicted of the pandemic in March.

The club also ran a double stage on the Snowman, which was run in reverse on the second run, A few marshals had to change positions for the second run, this was done in good time although Adrian could have been a bit quicker getting out of the stage, Great effort by everyone who turned out to marshal. (You may have already heard that 2021 Snowman has had to be cancelled), which of course is very disappointing but with recent events there was no choice. So, we know turn our attention to the next event, the Speyside, fingers crossed.

While writing this the news has come through that we are all going into yet more COVID-19 restrictions.

So, what we are needing is, SOMETHING TO CHEER YOU UP FOR CHRISTMAS, how about signing up for the Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally on the 25th & 26th   June 2021.

We are now in the position to start the process of getting Marshals /Radio Marshals signed up for the event. This year we move from the Forest onto the public highways of the Cowal Peninsular

The event starts on Friday evening with Stages 1 and 2 through Dunoon Town Centre, followed by a further 3 stages out on the roads,

For the Friday evening town stage Marshals would need to be available from 1700 (approx.) and the remaining stages on the Friday night from 1800 onwards (approx.).

For the Saturday Stages marshals would be required from 0830 onwards.  Saturday will consist of 4 stages run twice, so plenty off action to see throughout the day.

Service area will be at the Dunoon Stadium as normal.

With the new restrictions being imposed on the county, the future is anyone’s guess, but we will carry on with the process of signing up Marshals / Radio marshals until further notice.

Motorsport UK and UK General Radio Licences 2020

Notice from John Clayton:

As most people know I am the licence holder for both licences for TOB radios which are normally due on June 1st.

This year Motorsport UK have not issued any reminders as yet and therefore I am yet to receive further instructions with regard to this year. A decision I believe is imminent as to the amount due(normally £5 per set per year).

Also this year sees the UK General licence to be due. This is a 5 year licence to cover what many call the colours frequencies for private use. This fee is £10 per person for 5 years ( ie £2 per year).

Normally I collect both at the same time and I propose to do exactly this once I have the decision from Motorsport UK.

Several of you have been asking what is happening so please do nothing until I am in a position to clarify what the fees will be for 2020 and I will communicate via e-mail and here on the new website.

Thank you for your forbearance,

John Clayton.
